Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, participated in the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance held in Shanghai and addressed the audience.

Mariam Kvrivishvili expressed her gratitude to the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Organizing Committee of the World AI Conference for hosting such an important forum.

“I would like to particularly highlight yesterday, when we had the opportunity to listen to President Xi Jinping’s address at the opening ceremony of the conference. This clearly demonstrates the significant role China attributes to international partnership and the development of artificial intelligence,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.

Mariam Kvrivishvili highlighted that for Georgia, digital transformation means creating new opportunities, strengthening resilience, and ensuring that every citizen benefits from the advantages of the digital economy.

“Within the framework of our Digital Economy and Information Society Development Strategy, we are upgrading digital infrastructure, supporting technological progress, and building a solid foundation for the responsible implementation of artificial intelligence. Georgia will not remain behind this global transformation. We are currently working on the National AI Strategy, and at the Kutaisi Tech Hub, we are establishing the country’s first AI Research Center. This space will unite researchers, startup founders, and international tech companies to jointly create practical AI products and support the growth of a talented young generation,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili said.

As the Minister noted, elevating bilateral relations to the level of the Georgia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a crucial step forward.

“For centuries, Georgia, through its trade and transport routes, served as a bridge connecting Europe and Asia. Today, we continue this historical mission and are shaping up as a reliable digital gateway between the two continents. The Black Sea Submarine Cable, along with new large-scale data centers, will significantly strengthen secure connectivity and digital resilience. This will further solidify Georgia’s role as a strategic digital hub and unlock new opportunities for investment and research. On the path to realizing this ambitious vision, strong international partnership remains our top priority. That is why elevating bilateral relations to the level of the Georgia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a vital step forward in our collaboration, offering new opportunities across various fields, including strengthening partnership in the domain of artificial intelligence. This partnership is already translating into concrete, tangible initiatives. To deepen cooperation in AI, based on the memorandum signed between the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China, we have established a joint working group,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.

The Minister stressed that the dialogue, trust and international partnership are the foundation of responsible AI governance.

“Our partnership with China is a clear testament to how close cooperation can turn shared goals into real action. This collaboration serves as a reminder of a fundamental reality: no single country can realize the full potential of artificial intelligence on its own. Dialogue, trust, and international partnership form the foundation of responsible AI governance. The choices we make today will determine whether AI becomes a dividing line for the world or a force that brings us closer together. Georgia stands ready to actively collaborate with governments, industry leaders, academia, and international partners to jointly build a trusted, human-centric, and inclusive future for artificial intelligence,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated in her address.

Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze and Irakli Nadareishvili, also participated in the World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance.

The event was attended by over 100 high-ranking representatives of the state agencies, international organizations and the private sector.
