Unemployment Reached a Historic Low Level of 13,9% in 2024

In 2024, Georgia recorded a historic low indicator of its unemployment rate, which dropped by 2,5% down to 13,9%. Concurrently, the number of employed individuals reached record highs, increasing by 67,9 thousand to a total of 1 402 thousand.

The employment rate also rose by 2,6 %, reaching 47,1% in 2024, while the number of unemployed individuals decreased by 34,7 thousand, totaling 227 thousand.

Over the past three years, Georgia has consistently observed a trend of decreasing unemployment and increasing employment. Specifically, compared to 2021, the unemployment rate has fallen by 6,7%, and the number of employed people has grown by 185 thousand. The number of hired employees increased by 40 thousand to 960,4 thousand, and the number of self-employed individuals rose by 27,9 thousand to 441,5 thousand.

In 2024, compared to the previous year, the unemployment rate in urban areas decreased by 3,2% to 14.4%, while in rural settlements, it fell by 1,4 % to 13,3%. When examining by gender for 2024 compared to 2023, the unemployment rate among women decreased by 2,8% to 11,1%, and among men, it dropped by 2,2% to 16,1%.

On a quarterly basis, the fourth quarter of 2024 continued the downward trend in unemployment and upward dynamic in employment, with the unemployment rate reaching a historical minimum for the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the unemployment rate decreased by 1,1% compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year, reaching 14,2%.
