TAV Airports, a member of the French aviation giant Groupe ADP, will invest over 150 million USD in the expansion and development of Tbilisi International Airport between 2026 and 2028. This investment will increase the capacity of Tbilisi International Airport to 10 million passengers.

As the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, stated during her speech at the event dedicated to the launch of the Tbilisi International Airport expansion project, Tbilisi International Airport is not just transport infrastructure.

“It is one of the main pillars of Georgia’s economic growth, tourism development, investment attraction, trade, and the expansion of the country’s international connectivity. That is why its development is a strategic task for the state. We are delighted that our long-term cooperation with one of the world’s leading aviation groups, Groupe ADP, which includes TAV Airports, is entering a new phase of development today.

For the state, the development of the transport and logistics sector is one of the key priorities, where the aviation sector plays a vital role in strengthening the country’s economic growth, international connectivity, and transit potential. Aviation directly contributes to tourism development, investment attraction, trade expansion, business empowerment, and job creation. That is why in recent years, the state has directed significant efforts toward expanding Georgia’s aviation market,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted.

According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, 43 new airlines have started operating in the Georgian aviation market over the past five years.

“This year, for the first time in history, the capitals of the Kingdom of Denmark and Georgia were connected by a direct air route, and Norwegian Air entered the Georgian aviation market. In just two days, China Eastern, the third-largest Chinese airline, will begin operations in Georgia, performing direct flights between Tbilisi and Shanghai three times a week. Today, the Georgian aviation market hosts a historic high of 85 airlines operating flights to 125 destinations. This creates greater accessibility, boosts competition, and supports the sustainable and diversified development of our country’s tourism sector.

Given the geopolitical situation in the region, the year 2026 is full of challenges, including for the aviation and tourism sectors. However, it is in such an environment that it is especially significant that Georgia maintains a high rate of growth and the trust of international partners. Recent data also points to this,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.

The Minister noted that in June alone, Georgia’s airports served a total of nearly 788000 passengers, which is a 4% increase compared to the same period last year. Additionally, passenger traffic at Batumi International Airport was increased by 3% last month.

According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, the impressive passenger traffic results of Georgia’s airports have also positively impacted the success of the tourism sector.

Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, as well as the representatives of the executive and legislative authorities, and TAV Airports attended the event.

At the end of the event, a symbolic capsule-laying ceremony was held.
