Record figures were recorded in Georgia’s transport sector according to the data for the first six months of 2026.

Parallel to the total growth in cargo throughput across sea ports and terminals during the first six months of 2026, growth was registered in every individual port/terminal, as well as across all individual cargo categories.

The total volume of cargo processed at sea ports and terminals was increased by 22% and reached 9,7 million tons, which is the highest indicator recorded in the first half of the year over the past decade. During the reporting period, the total number of containers processed at the country’s sea ports amounted to 409 397 TEUs (+9% growth), which is also the highest figure recorded for the first half of a year in the last decade.

Notably, cargo processed at ports and terminals included types that were not transported during the same period last year. These include steel and various types of pipes, gold and copper concentrates, as well as several types of liquid cargo. Volumes of other types of cargo also increased significantly.

The first half of 2026 proved particularly successful for Georgian Railway where the total volume of cargo transported by the company was increased by 10% to 6,9 million tons, making it the highest indicator for the first half of a year in the last decade.

As for June 2026 specifically, Georgian Railway transported a total of 12 049 TEUs during the month, which is also the highest monthly indicator recorded over the past decade.
Furthermore, alongside the overall growth in cargo volume transported by Georgian Railway, a positive trend was observed across all individual transport modes including imports, exports, transit, and domestic shipments. Additionally, the railway significantly expanded the range of products it currently transports.
