Irakli Nadareishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, met with representatives of businesses involved in the tourism sector, together with the Secretary-General of the UN Tourism Organization, Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, who is on an official visit to Georgia.

During the meeting, discussions focused on tourism opportunities, prospects and the positioning of Georgia’s tourism products on international markets.

The Deputy Minister positively evaluated the visit of the UN Tourism Secretary-General and highlighted Georgia’s long-standing and effective cooperation with the organization. He also emphasized its continuous engagement in the development of Georgia’s tourism sector.

According to the Deputy Minister, tourism plays a key role in Georgia’s economy and remains one of the country’s priority sectors since its contribution to Georgia’s GDP is approximately 9,4%, reflecting the sector’s essential role in the national economy.

At the meeting, private sector representatives commended Georgia’s cooperation with the UN Tourism Organization. It was noted that such high-level visits and close collaboration with international organizations are particularly important for better highlighting Georgia’s tourism potential.

The meeting also addressed existing global challenges in the field of tourism.

Maia Omiadze, Head of the National Tourism Administration, Alexander Chkuaseli, Ambassador of Georgia to Spain and Cordula Wohlmuther, Regional Director for Europe at the World Tourism Organization also attended the meeting. Leadership of the Georgian Business Association, the Georgian Tourism Association and representatives of the hospitality sector also took part in the meeting.
