Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, met with Mamanbi Omarov, First Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who is currently on a working visit to Georgia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the priority areas of bilateral economic relations, with a particular focus on current and future cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors within both bilateral and regional formats.
Tamar Ioseliani introduced her Uzbek counterpart to the infrastructure projects aimed at increasing the competitiveness of Georgia’s transport corridor. In this context, particular emphasis was placed on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, the East-West Highway, railway modernization and the new Tbilisi airport, among others. It was noted that Georgia, as a major transit hub in the region, has the capacity to offer its partners a full spectrum of multimodal transportation services for moving cargo between Asia and Europe within the framework of the Middle Corridor.
The Uzbek side expressed a strong interest in increasing the transit of Uzbek products through Georgia’s transport and logistics infrastructure.
As highlighted during the meeting, the Uzbek delegation will also assess Georgia’s port and logistics capabilities over the course of their visit.
